How the Process Works

First Contact

Typically new clients reach out to me by email (tim@masteryourmind.london) or by submitting the short automated online form, although some will make their first contact directly by phone (07734 899944). Whichever method they choose the first task is to have a phone conversation at a time that is convenient for both parties. This conversation has no fee and is without obligation - the aim is to establish the nature of the issue that the client would like to work on and discuss what outcome is likely to be achievable. Sometimes clients will contact me with issues that do not respond to Hypnotherapy and I can usually advise what other avenues would be worth pursuing instead. If, however, the issue is suitable for Hypnotherapy I can describe my process of working in greater detail, give a realistic explanation of the scope of therapeutic outcome and likely duration of the intervention and answer any further questions the client has. We can then go on to schedule the first session, which in most cases will be an assessment and consultation.

Initial Assessment Session

For most conditions an initial assessment and evaluation will be required to establish the full nature and outline of the history of the problem requiring attention from which I will put together a treatment plan tailored to your need. Depending on your availability and preference this session will take place either at one of my practice locations or over Skype. It is during this stage that we will outline and agree the specific goals of the therapy – a vital element of Cognitive-Behavioural Hypnotherapy is how well we work together in pursuit of a successful outcome. Typically clients start to feel the psychological benefit from this stage even if little hypnosis, or what might otherwise be considered direct therapy, has yet taken place. These gains will be built upon throughout the subsequent sessions.

Subsequent Regular Sessions

From the start you will be fully involved with the therapeutic process so you are aware of the progress you are making. The typical course of treatment is 4 – 6 sessions and there will often be exercises to be carried out and practiced between sessions. Where possible it is preferable for sessions to take place at regular intervals until completion, typically one week apart. The scheduling of all sessions is flexible and entirely designed to fit in with your schedule and for the benefit of you alone.

Typically I will suggest 'homework' tasks or assignments to aid the process of your improvement. Great strides in development can be made between sessions and it is important that the topics we discuss and work on in consultation are put into practice between times.

Please note that sessions are, as of February 2016, now available via Skype to those unable to attend my practice locations in person or preferring to work this way. Fees for Skype sessions are lower and bookings more flexible. Please specify your preference for Hypnotherapy via Skype during initial communications.

OUR THERAPEUTIC ALLIANCE

During the ongoing process of therapy we will foster a therapeutic alliance to achieve the jointly agreed goals of the Hypnotherapy. This means that we will both be active participants in the process - working on the same team for the same goals. This often involves openness and an environment of trust and complete acceptance and non-judgement. I provide a safe environment for clients to work through their issues.

CODE OF ETHICS

I adhere to the code of ethics set down by the National Council for Hypnotherapy of which I am a member.
